With Christmas fast approaching I started looking on eBay to see how much I could get a decent Gameboy Color and a copy of Pokémon Red or Blue. My plan is to slowly introduce Neo to the world of gaming in a way whereby I hope he can appreciate gaming the same way I do. When I saw the prices however I decided it’s maybe better to wait a year for when he will be able to appreciate and understand it a little better. The problem was I spotted a few DMG-01 original Gameboys and it instantly took me back to being 7 years old and literally dreaming of owning one. I was lucky enough to be bought one by my grandparents when I was 9 and I played it absolutely nonstop for about 5 years!
With all that nostalgia rushing through me I dug out my original Gameboy to find in remarkably good condition! I found Tetris and Zelda with it but that was all. I have loads of other games for it, which I’m going to dig through my parents garage for, but I have little worry that they may have been gotten rid of without my knowledge! Getting back into a Gameboy frenzy I started looking through eBay for bundles at decent prices and actually came across nice bundle of a really good condition Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance SP (not the 101 model unfortunately), a bunch of accessories and really good games, so I put a bid in, won it and added it to my Christmas list J. I then started thinking that I plan to be playing my original DMG-01 more often and would like to get Neo using it, which then made me think; I need a second model to keep for small console collection. So I started hunting on eBay again and found a near new refurbished Gameboy DMG-01 with all original parts in perfect working condition, boxed with a loose copy of Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2 for £60! Despite my mind telling me not to I indulged in that. I also few nice deals on Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games for the collection.
All whilst doing this, I have been checking out some console collectors on YouTube and some of their collections are so cool! I was even more amazed to find out that overall they don’t really spend much on the collections by flipping copies of stuff they already own to cover the cost of their collectible items. This got me thinking… I want to do that! LOL! I already have a small collection of my favourite consoles (MegaDrive, Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Wii, Switch, Gameboy DMG-01, DS Lite, New 3DS, PSP, PSVita and soon to add Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance SP) and a small collection of my favourite games, but I was thinking how cool it would be to flesh this out!
I dunno what do you guys think?
I’m thinking of focusing to start with on ensuring I have one console that plays each game type, not worrying too much about console variations for now and also focusing on games I enjoy playing and then I could work from there. I really like the challenge of trying to do so on a minimal budget too. The room I have available isn’t the biggest and also I don’t have a lot of spare time to surf car boot sales every weekend but I thought it could be a nice little project and it will be something for Neo to enjoy to. With that being said I picking up and original Xbox with 200 actual game disks for £40 and a near mint Gameboy Advance SP with Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga for £10 on Saturday (I was looking at the game alone for £7 on eBay just last night!).
